January 2025 Update
Bon swa to the faithful supporters of the children at Divine Ministries in Haiti:
Not much new to report so far in this new year. The Haitian government has not yet been able to win control of their country back from the powerful gangs there, even though the Haitian police have seen their numbers augmented from other countries, like Kenya and Jamaica.
Prices continue to rise across the board because the gangs have a stranglehold on all goods and services normally available in Haiti. Life in Haiti is already hard enough without prices on food, goods and services all rising with no end in sight.
On a positive note, the long-awaited shipping port near Les Cayes was officially opened on Friday, January 17, 2025. Halleluiah! This area has been kept out of the control of the gangs (at least for now). So food, materials, etc. can be brought into the country without the extra shipping expense the gangs create, nor the threat of theft by the gangs. We trust costs will start to drop in our area of operation as the supply lines can now begin to be refilled.
The major commercial airlines still refuse to operate between the USA and Haiti, but there are several mission organizations that fly in and out of Haiti regularly. I have been told by our contacts at Divine Ministries that I can be safely conveyed back and forth to our facility in Les Cayes. The next step is convincing my wife (and other loved ones) of that message.
Last week 50 Haitian pastors attended a full day of Bible training at our compound, using a radio training device supplied to us by an outside ministry that provides such units to underdeveloped countries. These pastors are eager to grow both in their faith and knowledge of the scriptures. We have also been privileged with the opportunity to supply pastors with full Bibles, as they had none. Amazing to most of us who enjoy ready access to multiple copies of God’s Word in various translations!
As God continues to open doors to our ministry, we will certainly be faithful to trust Him for the necessary resources to complete any assignment He may give us. Your support is vital to the success of this outreach and we trust that God will richly bless you for helping us.
The children and staff of Divine Ministries send their love and deep appreciation to you for all you do for them.
Sincerely,
Mark Gillette
